Nakhon Kitchen

cheerful
Last weekend, Wei's mom brought all 3 of us kiddos across Singapore to Bedok for what she claims as "really good Thai food". We went all the way to Nakhon Kitchen in Bedok. And there was a really long queue of maybe 5-7 groups in front of us? This is a small eatery at those neighborhood shophouses ok. Surprised to actually find a good queue at the void deck. Immediately knew it would be good. :P Like Mellben in AMK.

Our table of food!! We ordered so much!!!

Pineapple Fried Rice.

With the seafood salad, tom yam soup, stir fried squid.

All the desserts on the menu. So good!!!!! I particularly enjoyed the Mango sticky rice. :E

New smile for the next 2 years.
I went ahead to have so much spices and hard food after plucking out 4 teeth in preparation for putting on braces and IT WAS SO WORTH IT. Friends you have to go try out this place!!! :D They have another outlet in Kovan too if you do not want to travel too far! But people say the bedok one serves better food...

2012: Graduation Goggles
Feb. 20th, 2012 | 06:21 pm
I am graduating in May this year. 4 years have come and past. I would not say that it passed in the twinkling of an eye. Because it did not. It was a hell of a journey. The downs? I went through 1x bad breakup, nearly flunked 2 modules and forgot to S/U them. Worst experience ever. The ups? Plenty. Wonderful internship experiences, awesome friends, meeting new people, significantly learning so much and knowing so much more and the feeling of doing well in my studies again.
I am not the kind of 'enthu' uni kid who participates in competitions, sports or hall activities. I attend school, classes, went for exchange for 6 months, go for countless project meetings and join the planning committees of one-off events and make friends and keep those friends close to my heart. That was enough. My varsity education was filled with so much fun and joy and of cos ridiculous down times that I fully have experienced my fair share of the varsity life.
In exactly 2.5 months time, I am going to have completed my CP (biz students version of FYP), 4 modules and my entire bachelors degree. With Honours. How can I forget. The struggle with my honors was such an epic one. My CAP has seen light and darkness haha. I must be one of the honored and lucky few to have secured a job way before graduation. Nothing less than the grace of God of course (but that is another story altogether). So damn thankful. And I shall enjoy the last of my student hood before plonking in to the workforce!!!

Today a friend was having some "relationship situation" with the guy she was dating and to no surprise she came to me. (We decided to call it a situation because not everything that happens is a problem haha)
The funny thing about it is, we could talk all day + night long about what she should do.. How strong we are supposed to try to be as independent women, how we should not let something come into the way of our careers.... And also discuss how possibly someone can say some things to a girl... And I do not know who is the guy-in-question. I asked but she said it was better I didn't know.
Sure, I was curious as hell. But as we talked, I realized it was really much easier to not let any preconceived judgements come into the way and just evaluate the situation based on her recounts. It was definitely one sided, but how can anyone possibly always get both sides of the story anyway?
It was fun too. It made me think. We don't really have to know everything around, do we? It might be really less stressful and does not complicate things. :)

Birthday Celebrations Part 2
Dec. 15th, 2011 | 09:11 pm
2 weeks ago we headed to Zen Japanese Restaurant with the group for a celebration.. The guys would jump at any chance for a good meal so they decided to celebrate my birthday at their favorite Jap buffet restaurant. We just went and didn't know what to expect.
Lo n behold the food was beyond awesome. The food pics below just don't do the good food any justice.

Steak - no choice of how we would like it to be done but it was so good. It was so soft and tender it literally melted in our mouths. Ordered like 4-5 plates!

Hehe and wei and I started chomping on the sashimi. Small pieces but so fresh and who goes to a buffet without spamming the sashimi?

Just like a quarter of the food we had. The wagyu beef was for the shabu shabu.

Seared salmon sushi. Cant get enough.

Nengs bought me a really awesome cake from Laurent Bernard cake in Moka and it was so yummy!! (also appreciate the tiff n co colors)

I was really happy to finally get a cake on my birthday. I don't grow up in a family with a habit of celebrating birthdays and getting a cake each birthday really means something to me. It was kinda like the only time I had a cake to myself, well kinda. The night was so good all of us had so much food! It was about SGD60 per person after the taxes and even I thought it was money well spent. :)
Zen Japanese Restaurant is located at River Valley Road, UE Square.
x

The other day Viv bought me my first gelish manicure experience! No pics of the deed though, because she bought it from a deal and the place had such a small selection of colors! >:( Love the hols for the shopping trips + brunch dates. Funny story how we became really good friends in NUS even though we were from the same JC! She came up to me one night when we were at an event half drunk telling me all sorts of stuff and we started catching up and becoming good friends after that. Hehe.
x

And this holidays I decided to take it slow and not do an internship so I took up a temp job! Hehe fancy a year 4 undergrad doing temp and being paid hourly! It is fun tho... Am working at the Museum and taking photos for people at the exhibition. Good thing is, I get to see all sorts of people, from rich taitais visiting the museum as part of their arty farty lifestyle (cultural capital as I learn in marketing) to families... friends... And the Titanic exhibition in Singapore is really a multi sensory experience and would be worth every cent that you pay actually. Thankful for a stint in a museum. Makes me feel like Charlotte from SATC.

Target for the year achieved
Dec. 6th, 2011 | 01:11 am
mood:
contemplative

I completed my second half marathon for 2011 :) And this is all thanks to Kel who ran both races with me. My pace was so slow like a snail but Kel still painstakingly ran at a comfortable pace, looked out for me and stop when I wanted to stop. :D He also taught me to eat my energy gels before the water points, spit out my water after rinsing my mouth and to run with bigger steps. The list goes on. He is awesome because he ran w me even though he had an injured ankle and bad knee. What can more can I ask for in a bro? !!!! Too damn awesome.
This race was quite a disappointment tho, I finished with a chip time of 3h3min which included spending 30mins on my first 2km because of the bottleneck in sentosa, the gradual upslope on AYE and the HOT SUN on AYE! The MBS + padang route was a good jog for me tho. :) Comparing this to the Sundown which I did this June and got a timing of 2h37min - obviously I was disappointed. But glad and thankful nonetheless that I still managed to finish this race.
Been thinking if I should run a half or a full marathon next year. This whole Stanchart marathon has the "running for a reason" tagline behind it and it really brings out a very personal side of people. Honestly, I don't think "looking cool" or "to fit in" or "to network" will be the reason why someone will run a 21km or a 42km. Most people run alone or in pairs anyway - not much chance for an interaction. Thus, people are intrinsically motivated. 21km is no easy feat for me. During sundown the only thought in my head was "ok one leg in front of the other" but during SCMS it was "IT IS SO HOT I WANNA RUN TO GET OUT OF THIS" hahhahahaha. I think for me it was really an achievement of some sorta goal I set for myself. Joining a marathon is an easy way to buy a goal to set for oneself and to work towards it and feel a kind of self achievement upon enduring the arduous journey to achieve it. It is a lot of challenging myself, pushing my boundaries further and further bit by bit because then I would know that I could really achieve something this absurd. :P
Maybe a full marathon next year!

Getting a Huawei E169 modem to work on Mac Lion
Nov. 30th, 2011 | 06:12 pm
I am no tech blogger, but upon surfing the net for solutions, I have discovered a way to make my old Singtel dongle work with my Mac Lion OS! Just wanted to share this with any Singtel user who might be looking for a specific solution for the Lion :)
For a week, I tried several different ways and drivers but I needed a specific Singtel driver to supplement the Huawei drivers. Could not find it at all! The Singtel dongle contains this preloaded program for the downloading of the application but it did not seem to work on the Mac Lion because the E169 is too old for the Lion :'(
After snooping around on the internet, I found this wonderful website for the US users but decided to just try anyway. It worked!
Sam Moffat from his webpage taught me how to download the drivers specifically from here and extract some files packed in the program and my dongle worked perfect!
All credits go to Sam Moffat:
"So I download the zip file and it extracts out to leave me with a “3Connect Installer”. Not quite what I want however all is not lost. You see applications on Mac OS X are actually folders in disguise commonly referred to as either “bundles” or “packages”. So right click on the “3Connect Installer” and select “Show Package Contents”. This opens up a view with only “Contents” listed, foiled? Don’t worry, double click into that directory and then into the “Resources” directory. Here we find a “mobilemanager.mpkg” file. Now “mpkg” is a package which means it has more goodies in it.
So we right click on this and select “Show Package Contents” again. We’ve got our “Contents” folder and inside that we want to go to the “Packages” folder. In there two packages exist: “mobile_manager_application.pkg” and “huawei_universal_425_05.pkg”. Now if you’re like me, everything is setup already – you just need the driver. So I skipped the mobile manager application and just double clicked on the “huawei_universal_425_05.pkg” file and installed it."
One thing different for us Singtel users:
Download both the “mobile_manager_application.pkg” and “huawei_universal_425_05.pkg" because we need the mobile manager app to allow the mac & singtel thingy to work together. After downloading both the apps, I restarted the laptop. Then, I plugged in the dongle and the 3 app just opens and click connect! Tadah! I got the connection!!!! *jumps around for a non tech geek to get this*
The awesome thing about this 3 app is that it has the duration that the internet connection has been up at the top status bar! Enjoyyyy!

I turn 22!
Nov. 30th, 2011 | 05:49 pm
This year I finally turn 22. Birthdays seem to decrease in significance after crossing the 21 mark but this year it was special because I opted for a no frills no present birthday and had probably the best meal in my life. The food, the conversations, the ambience, I liked everything at The White Rabbit.

I had the Quail + Foie Gras stuffed inside the bird and it was sooo good. Think this was to replace the duck confit in the original menu.

Wei bought me this dinner and the place was so beautifuulllllll <3

Decided to end the night off with beers and my all time fave cake - the Key Lime Pie!!!!!!
x

Then my favorite people in the world brought me to Mai Thai at Chip Bee Gardens for Thai food. Because I really wanted Thai food. And its funny how WE ALWAYS EAT THAI FOOD TOGETHER. Bangkok buddies.

Basil Pork and Green Curry Chicken <3 Spicy but really awesome.

Our going to be regular bridge and bluff session.
Starbucks @ Rochester Park - Quiet and beautiful

Hehe and Weiyan brought me out on the 28th for some shopping and TWO CRAZY MEALS. Had so much good food that day until it was too much. She still wanted to go for sticky date pudding after that. Crazy woman. Haha.

Hi all!
I am back after a hiatus of 1 year! Gasps! I have actually stopped blogging for an entire year since last October. A lot of things have happened. I have lost myself, found myself, did many things I never thought I would be able to do and am back happy again. :D If you happen to read this, thanks for always being there. There have been many groups of friends who have stood by me over and over again, things I dared to do, boundaries I stepped out of.
Lets take a look:

Going crazy with these girls

My besties

Yearly xmas gift exchanges

Meet ups

Making friends through modules

Serving in GB

MY EXCHANGE FRIENDS IN SINGAPORE!!!!!

The fun n happening group ;)

Korea with my most wonderful daddy <3

Did a Korean perm in Korea!!!!!!!

BKK + Koh Samet for an extraordinary shopping + adventure time with my bestest friends

Amazing beach + sunsets + good & cheap seafood by the beach

It was an amazing and intense 11 weeks of learning *sigh*
And last by not least, most significant event of the year: I CAUGHT TAYLOR SWIFT IN SINGPAORE.

With 2 guys!!!! Real guys like Taylor.

And I was beyond happy :) <3

I turned 21 last November... At a very heartwarming and lovely party prepared by my favorite people. Got picked up by a car filled with pink and silver balloons and was surprised by my different group of friends. Something was different that night. I was very very very happy.

Last December I interned at SGX and learnt a whole lot of things. Did a whole lot of stuff and met professionals who gave me a lot of insight on the working life. Also I did this perm and cut myself bangs because I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED BANGS. :) *cues colleen*

"Samson"
You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first, I loved you first
Beneath the sheets of paper lies my truth
I have to go, I have to go
Your hair was long when we first met
Samson went back to bed
Not much hair left on his head
He ate a slice of wonder bread and went right back to bed
And history books forgot about us and the bible didn't mention us
And the bible didn't mention us, not even once
You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first, I loved you first
Beneath the stars came fallin' on our heads
But they're just old light, they're just old light
Your hair was long when we first met
Samson came to my bed
Told me that my hair was red
Told me I was beautiful and came into my bed
Oh I cut his hair myself one night
A pair of dull scissors in the yellow light
And he told me that I'd done alright
And kissed me 'til the mornin' light, the mornin' light
And he kissed me 'til the mornin' light
Samson went back to bed
Not much hair left on his head
Ate a slice of wonderbread and went right back to bed
Oh, we couldn't bring the columns down
Yeah we couldn't destroy a single one
And history books forgot about us
And the bible didn't mention us, not even once
You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first
